About This Project

This low-poly lighthouse scene features:

  • Tower structure: Cylindrical base with tapered design
  • Lantern room: Glass dome with light beacon effect
  • Rocky base: Natural-looking foundation rocks
  • Surroundings: Simple cliff edge, ocean plane
  • Lighting: Dramatic sunset with volumetric fog

Modeling Workflow

Phase 1: Tower (20 minutes)

  1. Create cylinder for main tower body
  2. Use proportional editing to taper the top
  3. Add horizontal bands using torus shapes

Phase 2: Lantern Room & Details (30 minutes)

  1. Model lantern room from cylinder and cone
  2. Create glass dome using hemisphere with transparent material
  3. Add door, windows, and railing details

Phase 3: Environment & Lighting (30 minutes)

  1. Create rocky base using displaced plane
  2. Add ocean plane with simple shader
  3. Set up dramatic sunset lighting
  4. Configure camera angle and depth of field

Tips for Low-Poly Architecture

Tapered Structures

Create natural-looking towers efficiently:

  1. Start with a cylinder
  2. Use Proportional Editing (O key) to scale top vertices
  3. Add edge loops at band locations
  4. Bevel edges slightly for realism

Optimization Targets

ElementTarget Polygons
Tower body64-128 segments
Lantern room50-100 tris
Rocky base64-256 segments
Railing (each post)20-40 tris
